In 1991, the USGA established the P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship Program. This program is designed to give experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, while assisting state and regional golf associations, as well as other non-profit organizations dedicated to the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry level basis.
Each internship is unique, since the needs of each association are different. An intern may help conduct tournaments, junior golf programs, membership services, and other general activities that promote the best interests of golf.
The common thread, which runs through the internship, is exposure to tournament preparations, tournament administration and post tournament business. The nature of tournament administration will test one's patience, initiative and decision-making abilities, as well as one's ability to endure long hours and hard work.
A prospective intern should demonstrate strong managerial potential and a sufficient interest in golf. The Wyoming State Golf Association will provide an appropriate level of orientation and ongoing training and attention. The application period for these internships closes on March 29th.
Prospective applicants should send resumes, cover letters and references towsga@bresnan.net.

The Wyoming Cup pits the State's best professionals against amateurs in a Ryder Cup Team Format. Olive Glenn Golf & Country Club hosted this year's event on October 6th and 7th. The Professional Team consisted of David Snyder of Olive Glenn, Steve Johnson of Riverton Country Club, Gabe Maier of Olive Glenn, Kyle Petrie of Paradise Valley Country Club, Doug Conner of Powell Golf Club and Jef Allen of Highlands Golf Club. Dustin Materi of Sundance, Easton Paxton of Riverton, West Hernandez of Powell, Justin Kelly of Casper, Dave Balling of Cody and Kyle Nuss of Casper led the Amateurs.
Morning Four-Ball Matches were one by the Professionals in a score of 2 to 1, but the Amateurs narrowed the gap by halving the afternoon Foursome matches 1 1/2 to 1 1/2 to put the score at 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 going into Sunday's Singles Matches. The Ams were able to capture the cup for only the second time in the 12 year recorded history of the event in a final score of 6 1/2 to 5 1/2.
A special thanks to Dave Snyder and Olive Glenn Golf & Country Club. All competitors had an enjoyable experience in a fantastic event.
